During the first few days, you might notice that sounds seem a bit different or louder than you’re used to, which is perfectly normal. Your brain needs time to get used to the new way of hearing. Inserting hearing aids is easier than it might seem. For behind-the-ear models, you’ll first place the hearing aid over the top of your ear, then gently insert the earpiece into your ear canal. For in-the-ear models, you simply position the hearing aid directly into your ear canal, making sure it’s snug but comfortable. I’ll show you exactly how to do it during your fitting, and we’ll practice together until you feel confident.
Keeping your hearing aids clean is important for maintaining their performance. Daily cleaning involves gently wiping the devices with a soft, dry cloth to remove any earwax or debris. For the earpiece, you can use a small brush or wax pick (often provided with your hearing aids) to clean out any buildup. I recommend a more thorough cleaning once a week, and I’ll give you detailed instructions and show you exactly what you need to do.
The whistling sound, also known as feedback, can occur for a few reasons. It might happen if the hearing aid isn’t seated correctly in your ear or if there’s earwax buildup blocking the sound. It can also occur if the volume is set too high or if your hearing aid is too close to a surface like a hand or wall. We’ll ensure your hearing aids fit properly and are adjusted to minimise feedback, and I’m always available to help if you experience any issues.
